Stonehedge to host volunteer orientation May 9
As spring events step up, Stonehedge Gardens, 51 Diary Road, Tamaqua, will host a free Volunteer Orientation on Saturday, May 9 from 1 to 2 pm. The session will include an overview of Stonehedge and its history, mission and volunteer needs, followed by a tour of the Gift Shop, Summerhouse, Meditation Room, and gardens. Individuals and groups may call 570-386-4618 or stonehedgegardens@hotmail.com to rsvp.
Following the tour, participants are invited to enjoy light refreshments and learn more. Those who wish may sign up for future volunteer work, or begin that day.
“During May our focus is on upcoming events,” says Debi Dodson, the organization’s Board Secretary. “We always can use people interested in helping maintain the gardens, but right now we really need help staffing the gift shop, as well as people to help plan, publicize and run logistics at events,” she adds.
Upcoming programs include a variety of Wednesday evening programs, Monday evening yoga class, the annual Craft Show on May 16, a monthly Moonlight Garden Tour series that begins Friday, May 8, a half-day Yoga Workshop on May 23, and the summer Poetry Festival on July 18.
Stonehedge Gardens is a seven-acre public garden, gallery and gift shop used for art exhibits and education, as well as a variety of community events focused on nature, art and wellness. The garden is open to public at no cost. Visitors may explore the grounds any day between noon and dusk.
Operated as a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, Stonehedge Gardens is member-supported and run almost completely through volunteer support. Its mission is to provide an environment for personal and community transformation and wellness through its gardens and the arts. For pricing on private tours, to join as a member, or to learn more about hosting a class or workshop on the property, visit http://stonehedge.org or call 570-386-4618.
